What is the difference between Hydrate and Fuel2O? - Hydrate is formulated to replace what you lose when you sweat, namely water and electrolytes. It contains some sugar to help actively push water into your body, but it doesn’t contain enough sugar to be a significant contributor to caloric intake. Fuel2O has an electrolyte profile similar to Hydrate, but contains additional carbohydrates for fuel as well as HMB to kickstart recovery.
Why is there so much sugar in Fuel2O? - Fuel2O contains 25g of added sugar or 100 calories per serving. This may seem like a lot to some, but not when you're trying to fuel exercise lasting more than 90 minutes. The average person burns ~500-600 cals/hr when running and so to optimize performance and avoid ‘hitting the wall’ replacing these calories is paramount. Consuming 1-2 servings of Fuel2O/hr when exercising can help replace the calories you burn while simultaneously replacing electrolytes.
Why did you choose sucrose and dextrose as the carbohydrate sources in Fuel2O? - Fuel2O contains both sucrose and dextrose because these carbohydrates use different transport proteins to get from the gut into the blood. By using these two forms of carbohydrate and thus different transport proteins we are able to maximize the carbs/calories per serving of Fuel2O while simultaneously minimizing the risk of gut distress.
What is HMB and why is it in Fuel2O? - HMB is a metabolite of the branched chain amino acid leucine, which helps to minimize muscle protein breakdown, resulting in a faster turnaround between hard training sessions and races. During periods of prolonged caloric deficit (like endurance races), muscle protein breakdown occurs and inevitably leads to DOMS or delayed onset muscle soreness. By including HMB in Fuel2O, muscle protein breakdown and thus DOMS is reduced.
Why is the nutrition info different on Fuel2O bags and sticks? - In Fuel2O bags, 1 serving is equal to 2 tbsp. Fuel2O stickpacks contain 2 servings of Fuel2O, or the equivalency of 4 tbsp. We chose to include 2 servings of Fuel2O in the stickpacks because this is the amount of product that most endurance athletes will consume hourly.
When would you use 1 scoop/hr (½ stick) vs. 2 scoops/hr (1 stick)? - 1 scoop/hr (½ stick) of Fuel2O is ideal if your workout/event is of shorter duration (<90 min) or if you plan on getting calories from other sources during your day. 2 scoops/hr (1 stick) of Fuel2O is a good place to start if your workout/event is >90 minutes and you're hoping to get a significant portion of your caloric intake from liquid calories.
